Stay Sustainable While Mooving-in
Moove-In Tips
Moving into your room does not have to be a hassle, it is a great opportunity to be sustainable! Look at the following tips to make your Moove-in a breeze:
- Remove packaging at home for less waste to manage while unpacking.
- Packing items in reusable containers or bags reduces waste. They can also be used for storage throughout the year, and to pack again at the end of the year.
- Coordinate with roommates to avoid doubling up on items.
- Try bringing items you already have to shorten your shopping list.
- If shopping for your new space, consider buying used items rather than new.
- Bring reusable items such as beverage containers, plates, bowls, utensils, straws, hand towels, etc. to reduce waste. Did you know...every Residence Hall has a filtered water refill station to fill your water bottle! Check out this map to find other locations on campus.
On Moove-in day, please bring all cardboard and rigid foam down to the Recycle Stations provided by the Sustainability Team. Stations will be available September 15- September 17. Please do not put carboard boxes down waste chutes or leave them in waste rooms, that creates a safety and fire hazard.
Please also pay attention to your in-room Waste Guide (pinned to the bulletin board next to the entrance into your room), which will let you know where to take your additional waste and how to sort it. Get a head start and find them on this website too: https://housing.ucdavis.edu/sustainability/waste-diversion-guide/
Our team of Sustainability student staff will also be around to offer advice and guidance. Look for people wearing green T-shirts
