Have a Sustainable Thanksgiving

Buy local and organic foods

When you can, look for local fruits and vegetables. Locally sourced foods produce less carbon emissions to get your plate. Additionally, organic foods require less harmful pesticides and won’t pollute the soil and water where it's grown.

Use Reusable Dishware

Be sure to use reusable dishware when serving to family or friends, if this is not an option look out for the next best eco-friendly options, avoiding single-use plastics that often do not end up being disposed of properly.

Reduce food waste

Buying and eating foods that you know you like and will eat helps reduce food waste this holiday season. Remember to be thoughtful with the food you serve can help reduce your carbon footprint. You can also freeze leftovers or send them home with your guests!

Get ready for Winter Break Sustainably

Winter break is just around the corner! Which means cooler days, holidays, and a winter travel. Take this upcoming break from school as an opportunity to organize your room and free some space up. Here are good tips for the upcoming break:

  • Clean up: Time to transform your space! Clean up your room and discover hidden treasures among the items you no longer need. Upcycle those forgotten belongings into something fabulous or dispose of them properly. Check our Waste Guides here.
  • Donate items: You can drop off any gently used items in the reusables bin in your Area Service Desk, which will then go have a second life at the Aggie Reuse Store.
  • Free-up some space: If you are travelling in the upcoming holidays, take time to go over your clothes and take home all summer clothes you do not use anymore. Perfect time to bring the cozy winter sweaters!
  • Keep your room sustainable: Before you leave your room, make sure all the windows are closed, unused cords and electronics are unplugged, and dispose old food from your fridge. Keep the room sustainable even when away!
