Thanksgiving Break Information
For Residence Halls Only
Whether you're staying on campus or headed home, here's what you need to know for Thanksgiving Break. This information will also be emailed to your UC Davis email account!
Before you leave:
- Lower the thermostat to the lowest setting
- Turn off all lights & electrical devices (except mini fridges)
- (electronics with a time display should be unplugged from the outlet)
- Empty room waste in designated bins
- Close/lock/secure windows and close blinds
- Lock your room AND/OR suite door
- Don’t forget to take everything you will need while you are away, including medication & passports.
Dining Commons/Markets:
Although the halls will stay open, your housing contract specifies that there will be no meal service during the break. The last meal served will be dinner on Wednesday, November 22 and the Dining Commons and Latitude will close at 8pm. Meal service will resume at the Segundo Dining Commons on Sunday, November 26, with dinner, from 5-8pm. Meal service in Tercero and Cuarto will resume on Monday, November 27 with breakfast. The residential markets will close at 6pm on Wednesday, November 22 and will reopen at 9am on Monday, November 27.
*For those remaining on campus, there is an option to pre-order to-go meals while the DCs are closed. The deadline to order is November 17. Pickup for these meals are on November 22 only. You can find more information here: https://housing.ucdavis.edu/dining/thanksgiving
Mail:
Our area mailrooms will be CLOSED and unstaffed Thursday, November 23 through Sunday, November 26. Mail/packages deliveries will resume on Monday, November 27 - please plan your deliveries accordingly.
Administrative and Other Services:
No offices at UC Davis will be open during the period of Thursday, November 23 – Sunday, November 26, as these are University Holidays. This includes the Area Service Desks and Residential Academic Centers which will be closed starting Thursday, November 23 and will re-open at 8am on Monday, November 27.
After-Hours On-Call Numbers:
When the Area Service Desk is closed, the AHA (After-Hours Assistant) on-call for your area will respond to calls for lockouts. Please call the Area Service Desk for the area you live in below.

Residence Halls Fire Regulations for the Holiday Season
TREES:
- Due to potential fire hazard, live Christmas trees are not allowed in the residence halls. Artificial trees are allowed but must display evidence of certification of flame-retardant treatment.
- Trees must be displayed away from sources of heat such as electric or wall heaters.
- Trees must not block exit doors, lobbies or corridors, access to portable fire extinguishers, fire hose cabinets or fire alarm pull stations.
LIGHTS:
- Strands of lights in common areas, hallways and the building exterior are prohibited. However, strands of lights may be displayed inside your room/suite.
- All light sets must be UL-labeled and free from visible defects.
- Light cords must be protected from situations where they can be damaged.
- The use of extension cords is discouraged. If they are absolutely necessary, they must be no longer than 6’ UL-labeled, free from any visible defects, and protected from situations where they can be damaged while in use.
- The use of lights on metallic trees is prohibited.
- Disconnect/turn off lights when you leave your room/suite.
DECORATIONS:
- Use only flame retardant or noncombustible decorations.
- Decorations are not allowed on exit doors, or in such a way that they interfere with exiting or obstruct exit sign visibility.
- You must contact your area’s Resident Director to obtain a permit prior to decorating any major public assembly area.
- Spraying of artificial snow is NOT allowed ANYWHERE in the residence halls, including on windows.
Winter break planning info: the residence halls will close at noon on Saturday, December 16 and will reopen at 8am on Friday, January 5. Residents will need to find alternate housing during the closure, please plan accordingly. A checklist of items to prepare for the closure will be emailed to you soon.
