What to Expect at the Residence Halls

Congratulations on becoming a UC Davis student! We can’t wait to meet you. We know that there is a ton of information for you to take in about UC Davis, from classes to campus life. In this blog series, we’re going to give you the run-down on everything about living and eating on campus so you can get the most out of your time here. To start us off, let’s talk about what to expect at the residence halls, including the basics, furniture, packing list, roommates and tips.

How to Prepare Your Kids for College

Hello parents! Welcome to Student Housing and Dining Services’ blog series. Every month in the In the Know newsletter, we will have a blog about all things living and dining on campus. For this month, we want to prepare you and your student for what to expect from the residence halls and the dining commons. Let’s get to it.

What to Know About Big Shift

What is Big Shift?

Big Shift is an ambitious project to replace UC Davis’ steam-powered heating system with hot water generated by electricity, a renewable resource. The project began in spring of 2020 and focused on districts, converting one area of campus at a time. For the 25-26 school year, one of those districts will be near you and involve digging trenches, installing new hot water pipes, insulating those pipes and then restoring the surface that was dug up.

We have some exciting news! We’re about to break ground on a new housing project that will be in the location of lots 22 and 16 near you. This project is set to be completed in July of 2027 and will open the door to house many more students while adding to the overall campus experience.

Volunteers needed - Aggie Day 2025

Do you have Aggie Pride?  Do you want to help welcome the next generation of prospective students to campus?  We are looking for volunteers to help with Aggie Day for first-year students and Aggie Day for transfer students.

Aggie Day is our annual campus-wide event where we invite prospective students and their families to campus to learn what life at UC Davis is like.  Student Housing and Dining services will be offering tours and informational resources about living on campus and we need volunteer tour guides and tour rooms for the event.
