Sign up for Professor Kurt Kornbluth’s Spring 2026 course, "Path to Zero Net Energy", offered in collaboration with UC Davis Facilities and campus partners.
**Path to Zero Net Energy (ZNE)**

No prerequisites required. Open to upper-division undergraduate and graduate students of any major.
This project-based course gives students hands-on experience working on real UC Davis and regional sustainability challenges. Students collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to evaluate energy systems, circular resource pathways, and human-centered performance, producing client-ready analyses and recommendations.
Projects will fall under three main categories:
Decarbonized Infrastructure & Energy Systems
Circular Resource & Waste-to-Energy Systems
Human-Behaviour and Sustainable Practices

Location: Engineering Student Design Center (ESDC)
Clients will include UC Davis Facilities, utilities, and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), Sierra Energy (Davis) and more.
Course Highlights:
Work directly with real clients on applied ZNE-aligned projects
Gain experience in energy systems, infrastructure planning, and sustainability analysis
Develop practical skills with tangible campus and regional impact
