Biking is the most popular way for Aggies to get around campus at UC Davis! Here are some tips from your on-campus bike resources – the ASUCD Bike Barn and the Transportation Services Bike Program– to set yourself up for success.

1. Choose the Right Bike for You

Just like your laptop or backpack, choosing the right bike is essential to your success at UC Davis. It’s something you’ll use every day, so make sure you’re buying a good quality bike, or that the bike you’re bringing is a good fit for you!

When you are riding a bike that is right for you, you’ll be more likely to use it, take care of it, and stay safe. Riding a bike that’s uncomfortable or unreliable can make you late to class, stressed out, or too tired to focus once you get there. 

Bikes come in a range of colors, styles, and can be accessorized to suit your college needs! Make sure that your bike fits you well, as bikes too big, and too small, can be a safety hazard and worsen your experience.

2. Invest in a Good Bike (and Accessories!)

In Davis, bikes are an integral tool for your academic success! Invest in a bike that will be reliable enough for your rides to and from class, errands, and fun events.
You can get new and used bikes from the ASUCD Bike Barn, curated for our campus community, and pre-registered for compliance and peace of mind. Orders are still available to pick up at the Bike Barn during Move-In.
At the Bike Barn, we also recommend all Davis riders equip their bikes with these essential accessories:

• Fenders for rainy days
• Lights for safety at night
• A sturdy U-lock to keep your bike secure

3. Already Have a Bike? Bring it in!

If you’re bringing a bike from home, make sure it’s ready for the unique Davis biking environment. A quick tune-up can ensure it's safe and reliable, and our team can help install any missing accessories to enhance the functionality of your bike for Davis.

4. Be Sure to Get Registered!
