Exploring Housing Options

Thinking about housing options can be easier with the right resources.

As a second-year or continuing student, now is a good time to start thinking about where you want to live next year and what kind of housing best supports your lifestyle, budget, and academic needs. UC Davis offers a range of on-campus options, as well as a resource for off-campus housing options

The Student Housing & Dining Services (SHDS) website provides detailed information on on-campus housing communities, application timelines, costs, and meal plans, while the ASUCD Community Housing website can help you explore off-campus options. Taking time now to review these resources and reflect on your priorities, such as location, roommates, and level of independence, can make the process feel more manageable.

If you’re unsure where to start or want help thinking through your options, your peer mentor and campus housing resources are available to support you as you plan for next year.

Pro Tips:

  • Start exploring housing options early so you’re not rushed when applications and deadlines approach.
  • Talk through expectations (such as budget, schedules, etc.) with potential roommates or housemates ahead of time to avoid misunderstandings later.
  • Compare total costs not just rent: factor in utilities, meal plans, and transportation.
  • As always, don't forget to follow us on Instagram @ucdavisnsp for updates on programs and events!
