Midterms Season News!

More on Midterm Preparing & Debriefing, and upcoming events including the Majors Fair!

Some tips to assist you through the first midterms season, and news about the 11/1 Majors Fair and upcoming Residential Academics programs.

TIPS ON PREPARING FOR YOUR MIDTERMS

Before

  • Gather any supplies you’ll need (ex. scantrons, 2B pencils)
  • Avoid cramming - space out your studying
  • Prioritize class learning goals and difficult content
  • Use active learning (do more than reread notes)
  • Consider forming a study group or attending office hours, tutoring (AATC / RAC tutoring), or review sessions!

During

  • Take time to de-stress the day-of if possible
  • Skim the entire exam before starting if allowed
  • Note difficult questions to return to -Take deep breaths throughout
  • One test doesn’t define you!

After

  • Review performance in professor / TA office hours
  • Reflect on which study strategies worked best
  • Consider debriefing with your Peer Mentor!

What do I do if I fail my midterms?

One bad midterm doesn't define your whole grade! Tutoring can help with future exams! UC Davis offers tutoring at the AATC and Residential Academic Centers, don't be afraid to ask your professors and TAs for help!

What if I fail a class?

There is still plenty of time to form a study plan and make changes. Feel free to reach out to your teaching staff for advice on how to pass your classes!

“Where can I find support?”

  • Learn about majors / minors related to careers of interest
  • Explore personal and academic interests
  • Meet advisors from various majors and colleges
