Student Housing and Dining Services COVID-19 Protocols
Effective for Fall 2023 onward
Student Housing and Dining Services is committed to supporting our community through cases of COVID-19 or other illness during your time on campus. Please review the following information relating to the current (as of Fall 2023) best practices and resources available to students.
The COVID-19 pandemic officially ended in February 2023 when California's state of emergency was terminated by the Governor. State and county public health plans continue to guide The University of California, Davis' response to COVID-19 cases in our community. Current campus policies can be found at campusready.ucdavis.edu.
Following the end of the public health emergency, the university is no longer providing isolation housing for students with Covid. We are also not able to provide temporary housing for impacted roommates.
Face Covering
Wearing a mask significantly reduces the risk of transmission of illness to others. if you have Covid or any other illness, you are encouraged to wear your mask whenever you are around others. If you do not have a mask, we have masks available at your Area Service Desk.
Disinfecting Supplies
Cleaning surfaces in your room and other shared spaces, like bathrooms, reduces the risk of virus transmission. You can pick up disinfecting wipes at your Area Service Desk if you do not have any.
Ventilation
Keeping windows open allows for fresh air to circulate in your room. You are encouraged to keep your windows open if outdoor conditions allow. Please don't keep your room door open as it opens to an enclosed hallway.
Physical Distancing
You are encouraged to limit interactions with others as much as possible while you are sick. This includes avoiding community spaces in your building and taking the stairs instead of the elevator when possible.
Meals
There are no longer any restrictions on building access for students who have Covid, so you can eat in any dining commons if you choose to. If you are able to go to a DC, please wear a mask until you sit to eat. If you prefer not to dine-in, you may get a sick tray form for yourself from your CA or at the Area Service Desk. You must wear a mask when swiping in at the DC and getting your food. If you are using the sick tray process, you cannot eat in the DC; you must take your meal to go. If you are unable to go to a DC, please use the sick tray process to have another person (e.g., roommate, friend, CA) get your meal.
Tests (res hall residents)
Res hall residents can obtain a rapid antigen test from your Area Service Desk. Be prepared to show your student ID and provide your room number when picking up a test. Please take the test after 5 days to see if you are still positive.
Tests (apartments residents)
Apartments residents can obtain a rapid antigen test from the ARC, Shields Library, the MU, or the Student Health and Wellness Center. Be prepared to show your student ID when picking up a test. Please take the test after 5 days to see if you are still positive.
Reporting
Students are strongly encouraged to report their positive test through Health-e-Messaging. Information on current campus policies regarding Covid can be found here.
