WINTER BREAK INFO 2025
THE RESIDENCE HALLS CLOSE AT NOON ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13
You must vacate by this time, and you will not have
access to your room over the winter break.
THE RESIDENCE HALLS REOPEN AT 8AM ON Friday, January 2
Before you leave, please remember:
- Refrigerator: Remove food items, clean, unplug and leave door open with bowl or towel underneath to defrost and prevent mold from developing.
- Remove all trash from your room and suite; please visit this webpage for more information: https://housing.ucdavis.edu/sustainability/waste-diversion-guide/
- Check and/or empty your mailbox inside your area’s Service Center
- Unplug ALL electrical appliances.
- Turn off lights and turn down thermostats to the lowest setting.
- LOCK windows and OPEN drapes/blinds.
- LOCK your room/suite door.
- Take valuables home.
- Do not forget your passport, ID, wallet/purse or prescription medications.
| PACKAGES: The residence halls will be closed & mailrooms will be unstaffed December 13 through January 1. If you are ordering packages, please ensure that they are mailed to wherever you will be staying over the winter break. Any mail/packages addressed to the residence halls will be refused and returned to sender. Thank you! |
- UC Davis police will patrol all the Student Housing areas during the winter break.
TREES: Due to the potential for fire hazard, live trees are not allowed in the residence halls. Artificial trees are allowed but must display evidence of certification of flame-retardant treatment. Please remove the artificial trees from your room before you leave for break.
DECORATIONS: Please remove all holiday decorations from your door and windows before you leave for break.
BIKES: It is not advisable to leave bikes in bike parking areas during winter break. We suggest that you take your bike home or leave it in your room. Bikes should not be locked up in hallways or other public spaces during the break.
MEALS/DINING: The last meal served will be dinner on Friday, December 12. Meals resume with dinner on Friday, January 2.

If you have questions, please visit to your Area Service Desk
- For fire, safety, and security reasons, Student Housing staff will also conduct facilities checks to make sure the buildings and areas are secure during the closure. They will also need to access buildings/rooms to perform preventative maintenance tasks or respond to a maintenance emergency.
PLEASE LOCK YOUR DOOR EVERY TIME YOU LEAVE YOUR ROOM.
DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VALUABLES WHERE THEY CAN BE EASILY SEEN OR STOLEN.
