‘Tis the Season for Sustainable Holidays
The holidays are practically knocking at our door, and you know what that means—time to get our festive game on! Now, as we gear up for the upcoming celebrations, let’s get our sustainable hats on and dive into some tips to make this holiday season not just joyful but also sustainable! It’s all about spreading cheer while keeping our planet happy,
- If you are giving gifts away, make your own wrapping (or go without): It is a common misconception that wrapping paper, ribbons and gift bows are recyclable. Unfortunately, if the paper is metallic, has foil or glitter, it is not recyclable. You can avoid a lot of waste by using white or brown craft paper, old maps, newspaper or paper bags. Here are some good ideas that can help you: Eco-friendly Gift Wrap Ideas.
- Make handcrafts and DIY gifts: Let’s shake things up and get creative by handcrafting your gifts! Not only will you be spreading the festive cheer, but you’ll also be slashing your consumption impact like a pro! These types of gifts can be as much fun to make and give as to receive. Here is a list some gift ideas: Guide to DIY Holiday Gifts
- Look for organic and local foods for your holiday dinners: Elevate your holiday feast to a whole new level of flavor by prioritizing the incredible local farmers and food producers in your community! A fantastic way to kick off this journey is by visiting your local farmers market and looking for sustainable foods like Certified Organic and Fair Trade.
