Trash Talk & Resident Gardens
Let's have a Trash Talk
At Student Housing and Dining Services Sustainability, we love good Trash Talk, and we want you to be part of it too!
In your Res Hall's waste collection area, you will have access to three waste streams: Compost, Landfill, and Recycle. All residents are responsible for emptying their room waste in the right waste collection area. To find out where the waste collection area is in your building, please check out your building's Waste Guide.
Please do:
- Pay attention to the posted waste sorting signs to know what waste goes on each stream.
- Flatten cardboard boxes and put in the proper bin to be recycled.
- Refer to your Residence Hall waste guide for instructions on where to dispose of Household Hazardous Waste, Reusables, and eWaste.
Please avoid:
- Placing room waste in bathroom waste bin, lobby waste bins, and hallways.
- Disposing cardboard in waste chutes, as they can pose a fire and safety hazard if chute becomes jammed.
- Disposing cardboard in Mixed Recycle toters, as they take up too much room.

Join us at the Resident Garden for gardening fun!
Ready to get your hands dirty? Join us at the Resident Gardens and start your gardening journey with us. Whether you are an experienced gardener or just getting started, there is a place for you in the Resident Garden.
We offer three different garden initiatives for you to be part of
- Resident Garden Hours: Weekly scheduled hours where you can come in and help with regular garden maintenance and get familiar with the Resident Gardens. There will also be specific themes each week that will focus on a certain aspect of the garden, like garden irrigation or harvest week
- Resident Garden Circles: Small groups of gardeners that focus on a specific topic or area of the gardens (like growing plants, garden design, or composting). They meet every week during garden hours to work on gardening projects specific to their area.
- Adopt A Plot: Residents interested in fostering a small garden area can apply for Adopt A Plot and begin taking care of that area. Residents will be able to grow plants, fruits, and veggies with the support of the Resident Garden Coordinators. All materials and supplies are provided free of cost!
