Student Housing Vehicle Policy

What To Know Before You Bring Your Bike, Scooter, or Hoverboard

busy campus bike circle

UC Davis is a pedestrian friendly campus. While you'll see many people on campus walking, biking, and skateboarding that doesn't mean you can do it anywhere.  If you're planning on bringing a personal vehicle such as a bike, scooter, skateboard, etc we strongly recommend you check both university policy and Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) policy first.

SHDS vehicle policy is outlined in the Guide to Student Housing and Dining Services.  Please note that while use of motorized personal vehicles is allowed on campus, the storage, repair, and charging of motorized vehicles is prohibited in Student Housing and Dining Services spaces.  This includes but is not limited to hoverboards, electric scooters, electric skateboards, and electric bicycles. The use, riding, or driving of both motorized and non-motorized vehicles is likewise prohibited inside SHDS buildings.

An overview of campus transportation Rules Of The Road can be found on the Transportation Services page along with a variety of other detailed information.

The City of Davis's recently announced their new Spin E-Bike and E-Scooter ride share program will officially launch September 1, 2023.  Returning residents should be alert for changes to slow riding, no riding, and no parking zones around Davis.  All residents are reminded that ride share bikes and scooters are subject to all SHDS policies as outlined above.
