It’s already time to start thinking about next year’s housing. Now that we’re in the new year, it’s time to plan. From on-campus housing to off-campus options, we’ve got all the information you need to make an informed decision. Let’s dive into it.

Winter Break Info 2025

WINTER BREAK INFO 2025

THE RESIDENCE HALLS CLOSE AT NOON ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13
You must vacate by this time, and you will not have
access to your room over the winter break.

THE RESIDENCE HALLS REOPEN AT 8AM ON Friday, January 2

Before you leave, please remember:

Winter Interim Break Housing

Residence halls will be closed during Winter Break and accommodations in the residence halls will not be available. Residence Halls close at Saturday, 12 pm on December 13, 2025 and will open on Friday at 8 am on January 2, 2026.

Student Housing has identified hotels in the Davis area that can accommodate our students’ housing needs during Winter Break. We have negotiated a discounted nightly rate, which the student will be responsible for paying. Availability is limited and provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The rate is $99/Night, breakfast and parking is included.

Second Year Housing Information Sessions 2025

It's not too early to talk about Fall 26 housing options. Unsure if you want to live on-campus vs off-campus? We can help.  Sessions will include information about on-campus apartments for returning students, grad students and families, second year housing options in the residence halls, and how to submit your housing commitment.

How to Prepare Your Kids for College

Hello parents! Welcome to Student Housing and Dining Services’ blog series. Every month in the In the Know newsletter, we will have a blog about all things living and dining on campus. For this month, we want to prepare you and your student for what to expect from the residence halls and the dining commons. Let’s get to it.

What to Know About Big Shift

What is Big Shift?

Big Shift is an ambitious project to replace UC Davis’ steam-powered heating system with hot water generated by electricity, a renewable resource. The project began in spring of 2020 and focused on districts, converting one area of campus at a time. For the 25-26 school year, one of those districts will be near you and involve digging trenches, installing new hot water pipes, insulating those pipes and then restoring the surface that was dug up.

What You Need to Know About the April Strike

We always strive to make where you eat and where you live the most enjoyable part of your day, but right now, some of our dining locations and residence halls will be affected by the union strike that is taking place on April 1. We hope all dining locations and residence halls will resume their normal operations as soon as possible, but in the meantime, please learn more about what is affected.
